Nightmares Again!

By Simon Wong

Everyone has some kind of experience if nightmare. Nightmare is not the "privilege" for children only. Both you can I can "enjoy" this. Nightmare in general speaking is bad and unpleasant dream. Why it is unpleasant? The main reason is we all feel terrified and fear in nightmares. In addition, you usually can remember what you have seen or heard in the nightmare quite clearly, which make it even more terrible.

There are many causes for nightmares. One of the common ones is sickness. When you are sick especially suffering from fever, you feel physically uncomfortable. Or, due to the medicines like levedopa for Parkinson disease that people take when they are sick, they are more likely to have nightmare.

Stress from work, relationships, educations or even families can also be a common cause of nightmares. Nightmares caused by stress are very much believed to be a release of stress and anxiety that have got over your maximum points. Because of that, your body automatically releases such stress through nightmares. In this case, nightmare may be helpful in preventing some even more serious psychological problems.

Childhood memories can also cause nightmares. Of course the memories talking about are usually the unpleasant ones. Sometimes you may not know the nightmares are actually caused by unpleasant childhood with neglect or abuse as you were too young to remember in your childhood.

Nightmares can be disturbing to our sleep or in other words lower the quality level of sleep. This is especially true for the recurring nightmares. Sometimes people get woken up from the nightmares as it is too scary. And it takes them some times to calm down.

If you want to have high quality of sleep, one way to do is to keep yourself away from nightmares. You should set a fixed time as your bedtime. Avoid reading scary books or watching scary films at night, especially before you go to bed. Keep yourself relaxing by listening to soothing music. Keep some dim light and good ventilation in your bedroom also help.

Finally, do not be surprised that some people need to consult doctors when the nightmare problem becomes serious. It can be described as serious if you have nightmares more than once a week and you find yourself do not sleep well because of nightmares. Other than consulting the doctor, you may try one method yourself. You can write down the things you can remember in the nightmare and try to think about it. During your thinking, use your mind to change what have happened in the dreams. Keep on doing that for several days and you may find no more nightmares. - 30309
