Finding Ways To Relieve Stress

By Rene A Lacape

We live in an age when stress seems to be around every corner, at every office. The demands of modern life require us to be constantly ?plugged in? through e-mail, cell phones, pagers, and Blackberry devices. You might feel as if your senses are constantly being bombarded, both at work and at home. As a result, stress might have led you to the breaking point.

We don not realize how lucky we are, since the best mental pressure reliever is just around us. All you have to do is look around you and see the green natural environment earth has provided for us. For the young people it might sound like what your parents do, but once you would try it you realize how soothing and relaxing the natural environment can be.

First, you must be willing to take the time to drink in nature and all its beauty. Often, we feel overwhelmed by commitments?so overwhelmed, in fact, that we become guilty if we take time out for ourselves. However, if we are to successfully combat stress, we absolutely must reserve time for stress-relief, and nature can be one of the best stress relievers available.

For countries which have the four seasons in the year, they will find that each season has their own ways of helping people overcome their stress. When autumn season arrives, we enjoy the different colors of leaves on the trees which provide us with vibrant and colorful shades. Imagine you are walking along the road, gazing at the leaves falling from the trees, while your ears listen to the crunching sound that your every step makes when you step on the leaves, and the warm color of the skies then. When we are in this scenery, we are able to keep our minds relaxed and be more prepared to face the difficulties in our lives.

In the winter, we can take brisk walks through the snow, watching the flakes delicately float down to earth. We can be energized by the brisk winds and frigid temperatures. We can also gain a certain amount of confidence in battling the elements, helping to relieve our stress level.

After winter leaves and spring time finally comes, we can see the real colorful side of Mother Nature. Everywhere we can feel and smell the scent of the early blooming flowers in the garden, how beautiful is the flowers and plants which survived the harsh conditions of winter, and also the wonderful music that the birds are creating above the trees. Just by looking at the spring scenery can leave you refreshed again.

Meanwhile, in the summer, we can experience nature at its most vibrant. We can enjoy the scent of the grass after the lawn has just been mowed?and watch the trees gently waving in the summer breeze. We can revel in the sun?s rays, or enjoy the refreshment of a summer shower. Just a few minutes in the outdoors can reduce our stress level dramatically.

There are also a number of nature-related activities we can engage in order to relax. For instance, hiking offers a tremendous opportunity to see the splendor of nature up close and personal. Skiing allows us to enjoy winter?s beauty, while a game of Frisbee can be a tremendous lift on a summer afternoon. Because nature offers such a feast for the senses, enjoying the outdoors can bring a sense of calm and tranquility to our lives that few other things can.

Gardening has become more and more popular among the working people thanks to its ability to help people relax and ease their mind. When you are working to plant the lovely plants, trying to clear the grass away from stealing nutrition, and other garden activities your mind is focusing on the tasks ahead, and not the workplace. Many people are taking up gardening as a hobby because it helps keep them focused. Tasks such as mowing and cleaning the lawn from the dead leaves, or clearing the snow during the Winter days can keep you occupied and stop worrying about work and home troubles, therefore providing our minds with some time to rest.

You may be so inspired by nature that you write poetry about the things you see and hear. Such writing can be tremendously cathartic, especially when undertaken outdoors. Lying in a chaise lounge under a tree, composing sonnets about flowers, can get your creative juices flowing?and lower your stress level in the process.

When you do any of the activities, you will be pleasantly surprised at how helpful these tasks are. It helps you clear up your senses, giving you a clearer sense of what is happening around you since you feel your sense working perfectly again. You find yourself enjoying the beauty of nature and you feel a sense of pride for being alive in this world. Once you lose yourself in the world of nature, you block yourself out from the stressful noise of music and the news coming from the television. If you do not see yourself as an outdoor person, you can still take the occasional time off and venture into the outdoors once in a while. When you are feeling positive about life, you are more able to handle the mental pressure you encounter. In reality, spending some time outdoors would help you relax since you are taking a short break away from the daily chores at work and home. - 30309
