Different Types of Yoga

The discipline of yoga is considered to be the essence of a healthy life. For this reason, it has grown in popularity in the Western world. Yoga offers the habitual practice a healthy life and peace of mind. It is highly recognized as a stress reliever and has been proven to aid many chronic ailments. There are eight categories of yoga of which each combine poses with meditation and breathing Pranayams.

Bhakti Yoga:

Bhakti Yoga stresses on the love and dedication to God. A person performing this type of Yoga learns to show love, kindness to the creatures co-existing with him/her, other than devotedly worshipping the Lord. It can be experienced in a number of ways, like praising the God by singing, saying mantras, reading religious books, paying attention to prayers and by seeing religious movies.

Hatha Yoga:

This type of yoga was founded by Yogi Swatmarama in India in the 15th century. Based on two boundaries, "ha" meaning the sun and "tha" meaning the moon, it believes that the sun holds positive energy and the moon holds negative energy.

Jnana Yoga: This type of yoga aims at isolating the person performing it, from all the temporary things of the life. The person doing it gets harmony, control over mind, wisdom, confidence, ability for concentration and the stamina to withstand and face any situation.

Mantra Yoga: This form implements the use of narrating mantras n a thoughtful way to obtain goals. It offers the person performing it peace of mind and confidence. In addition, it is a powerful tool in aiding in the relief of mental illness, stress and nervousness.

Karma Yoga: As the name suggests, this type of yoga is used to commit all actions or karma and its fruits to the Almighty. It is a tool to purify the heart. A Karma Yogic or person who is performing this type of yoga serves the poor, needy and sick without expectations of money, honor, fame or authority in return.

Kundalini Yoga: This form is utilized to draw the unexploited energy corkscrewed at the bottom of the spine by using the senses, mind and body. To achieve this, postures, meditations and chants to awaken the seven chakras of the body are performed.

Raj Yoga:

This form of yoga is utilized to lighten a person from emotional and mental clashes. It is used as a tool to put a person in a state of peace and harmony. It is also referred to as the "Astanga" or eight limbed yoga.

Purna Yoga: Based off of the karma of everyday life, this form of yoga teaches knowledge and techniques to unite the mind, body and soul. This type of yoga utilizes meditation, Pranayama and postures based on alignments. - 30309
